Cambodia's Economic Reforms Continue Unabated

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen remarked on economic reform in Cambodia, shifting the country’s economy towards a free market since being liberated from the Khmer Rouge regime. However, he stated that this reform is not yet near its end.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for students of Vanda Institute on Monday morning, 3 October, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that this unfinished reform is related to certain credentials Cambodia has not yet fulfilled with the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"It means that we have not reached the end of economic reform. Because we still lack some credentials that we owe to the World Trade Organization. Indeed, our country joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, before Vietnam and Russia,” he said.

Along with a lack of certain standards, the Prime Minister said Cambodia is also making some changes in the management of its national economy.
